Google has purchased Plink, a visual search engine that helps find photos by uploading a snapshot.

Google’s main intention behind this acquisition is to improve Google Goggles, which is an Android app that displays search results based on photos uploaded.

Plink was founded by 2 PhD students, Mark Cummins and James Philbin. It created first Visual Search Application for Android known as PlinkArt.

With PlinkArt users could find any painting or artwork by just uploading a photo. It will display information related to the artwork, artist and users can even order a print of any painting.
