Rename and Delete Folders and Tags in Google Reader

To keep in touch with the latest news or updates, usually we subscribe to the RSS feed of a blog, either using an online Feed Application or a desktop application.

Google Reader is one of the best Feed applications. It is light, easy to use and with many features.

I will be using it to keep in touch with the latest updates.

But, one fine day as my feed subscriptions kept on increasing, I decided to organize all my feed subscriptions by creating folders and assigning certain feeds to a particular folder.

It worked fine; all my feeds were well organized. But, not until I realized that I had mistakenly named a folder with some other name.

So I decided to rename the folder. But, there were no options in Google Reader to rename the folder.

After spending enough time on it, I found a solution.

To rename a folder, click on Settings page and select ‘Subscriptions’.

There is a huge list of subscriptions, with an option to rename those feed.

Now to rename the folder, type the name of the folder to be renamed in the ‘Filter by name, folder, or URL’ box at the upper right corner.

All the feeds under that folder will be displayed. Select ‘All subscriptions’ option in the top left corner to select all the feeds under this folder.

Click on ‘Change Folders’ option and create a new folder, with a new name.

Under the ‘More Actions’ box in the top left corner, select the name of the newly created folder. This will copy all feeds from old folder to the new one. To get rid of the old folder, click on ‘Remove Folder’ option.
